On the Road for Treasure
H&H Auction Rooms takes to the open road for a Spring Antique Road Show People across Cumbria and Tynedale are being encouraged to search their sheds, raid their attics and dust off heirlooms and forgotten treasures in time for a professional valuation. H&H Auction Rooms have announced that they are to hold a Valuation Roadshow this spring, the dates are 24th and 25th April and 8th, 9th, 16th and 17th May. With some of the most enigmatic venues in the North, customers can enjoy beautiful surroundings whilst finding out about little gems found around the home. The valuation roadshow will be open between 9.00am and 3.00pm and will be visiting Langley Castle on 24th April, Hexham Abbey on 25th April, Muncaster Castle on 8th May, the Beacon at Whitehaven on 9th May and at The Keswick Country House Hotel on 16th and 17th May. There is no need to pre-register, and for larger items a home visit can be arranged by contacting Stephen Farthing, H&H Auction Rooms Manager beforehand. All advice and recommendations will be free. Stephen says: “This is the first time I have taken to the road with our Valuation Day service. When held in our Auction Rooms we see some fascinating items and we are sure that we will see all types of interesting items on our valuation roadshow. Recent changes in fashions have seen an increase in value for rusty bits and bobs found in sheds and the unusual items with local history just crying out to be used again.” Stephen adds: “We expect to see people who are hopeful that they may hit the jackpot and make their fortune with the treasures and heirlooms they unearth. Valuations are also useful for insurance purposes so anyone who wishes to capitalise their item will have the chance to talk to us about its value and the auction process. “Many people have bits and pieces gathering dust in the attic, which may appear worthless to the untrained eye, however this may not be so and they may have significant value. A recent example was a tatty bronze cat found in a house, which turned out to be an ancient Egyptian bronze, 2000 years old which sold for £52,000.00. “At a recent H&H valuation day a pair of Marriage Plates realised £1700 at auction. A picture of a ship painted on glass found in a garage later went on to fetch £1500. “Objects that people don’t think of as having high value are often consigned to the attic, the garden shed, the garage or the cellar. I would encourage you to look at your family hoard and see if it can be put to better use. Please don’t neglect traditional furniture, the market can be a bit topsy turvey for this, but remember, it is often not being bought for its aesthetics but for its potential as shabby chic.
