Retro Drawers Snapped Up

H&H Auction rooms enjoyed a buoyant weekly sale at their auction rooms in Carlisle earlier this week.  The variety of lots to see coming under the hammer in the current market, demonstrates the importance of seeking sound advice from auction houses, making sure that you get the best possible advice and the most up to the minute prices. With the current home trends, up-cycling quality antique furniture is becoming ever more popular.  This was evident when a set of drawers that at one time would have been commonplace in many offices throughout the land, featuring a roller shutter, otherwise known as a tambour front, sold for £600.  The drawers are now on their way to a London apartment to take pride of place in a kitchen. Certain antique furniture has limited appeal and a quality mahogany Georgian bureau bookcase at one time may have sold for around £2000.  This could now be considered a sound investment as the hammer price achieved on Monday was £280 but it could bring a healthy return in time. Commenting on the sale, Stephen Farthing, Auctioneer at H&H Auction Rooms said: “I am always delighted by the variety of lots coming to auction, there are so many outstanding examples of furniture, antiques, silver, gold and ceramics, it is staggering.  It is really difficult to keep up at times with the ever changing trends; however, this is what makes this industry such fun.” The auction rooms attract a wide range of bidders both in person and bidding remotely, the weekly sales in particular are extremely well attended and many regulars turn up every Monday to ensure they don’t miss out on any potential bargains, or that one particular unique piece.
