Fine Paintings go under the Hammer
Hosting the second event in their 2016 calendar, our sister company in the Scottish Borders - Swan and Turner are expecting over 600 lots to go under the hammer in their general antiques and collectables sale. Already generating a buzz of excitement, the sale will commence at 10.00am and will be held at Swan and Turner sale rooms in Jedburgh on Saturday 23rd April. Included in this auction will be the exclusive spring sale of fine paintings. This very special sale is known for having a good entry of high quality paintings, which on this occasion will include many exquisite Floral Life’s from artists Kate Cameron, Ethel Walker and Anne Carrick, to name just a few. All the items for sale are available to view online There will also be viewings on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd April, and on the morning of the sale. Creating a great deal of interest this specialist sale features Lot 458 ‘In the Haining’ a watercolour painted by the renowned artist, Tom Scott, which is expected to achieve between £5,000 and £7,000. In total there will be seven watercolours by Tom Scott, and having previously sold Tom’s paintings for up to £16,000 at Swan and Turner, there will certainly be some fervent bidding. Commenting in advance of the sale, Frank Forrest, Auctioneer at Swan and Turner said: “There are many beautiful pieces included in this sale, and it really makes it very special that we are able to offer the exceptional pieces of artwork. A painting, which may spring a surprise and sell well above the estimate, is the high quality 17th Century Portrait of Esme Stuart, Duke of Lennox, which has been consigned from a lady from the west of Scotland, and carries a pre-sale estimate of £4,000 to £6,000.” Frank goes on to say: “We are always extremely well supported by people here at the auction rooms in Jedburgh, and our sales always create a great deal of interest from telephone bidders throughout the UK and abroad.” Other highlights included in the April sale is a wonderful collection of Snaffles Prints, Lots 407 to 413 and it is expected that these will prove particularly popular with the hunting fraternity. The entry of ceramics will include an early Worcester (circa 1765) blue and white half tea set, Lot 191, with an estimated price of £800 to £1200, and a rare Beswick Silver Dunn Galloway Bull, Lot 12, estimated at £500 to £700.
